Ultrasound Phantom—Foreign Bodies
We are excited to share that our newest model, Ultrasound Phantom—Foreign Bodies, has officially launched!
This model was designed to train and educate healthcare professionals in the use of ultrasound technology in identifying foreign objects in soft tissue. This unique model is available in both dark and light skin pigments and has the tactile feel and pressure resistance of human tissue.
The Ultrasound Phantom—Foreign Bodies model includes six different foreign bodies at varying depths:
- BBs
- Glass shards
- Metal needles
- Metal shavings
- Wood slivers
- Staples
This model will allow healthcare professionals to understand how objects appear on screen and how to identify objects based on reverberations, material, shape, size, and more. The Ultrasound Phantom—Foreign Bodies model is available now for purchase on our website.

What’s your favorite thing about your work? There are so many fun things about working at VATA. I love learning how to make new products especially. I just enjoy my job and like what I’m doing every day. I like working here and have fun with my coworkers. I also like that our products are helpful to people.
What’s something that might surprise people about your job? When I first tell people what I do, a lot of them are confused at first—they didn’t realize that products like the ones that we make existed. Or they think we make prosthetics. But once you explain that we make models to help doctors and nurses learn how to care for people they get it and then start to realize how important it is. But it can be funny at first.
What’s your favorite product? I love working on the Otto Ostomy model. I like how it looks—the intestines are really realistic and look pretty real. I like that we are able to make products that are true to real life.
